Dedicated to UT, Education and Austin

Mickey and Jeanne Klein

Jeanne (BS ’67) and Mickey Klein (BS ’58, JD ’68) support a variety of programs and colleges across The University of Texas at Austin, but the College of Education holds a special place in their hearts.

The Kleins have established two endowed scholarships and included a third in their estate plan to support students who are preparing to be educators.

“We want to make sure that they get a great education so they can be great teachers and not graduate with debt that may force them to take a different path,” said Jeanne, a College of Education graduate and member of their advisery council. The Kleins’ Austin home — which they purchased so that they could be closer to, and more involved, with UT — will also be donated to the university.

“The Kleins’ estate gift benefiting undergraduate scholarships in the College of Education is a legacy gift that bridges their love for UT and their long-standing commitment to children, equity and education,” said Dean Charles Martinez, Jr. “As champions for the college, Jeanne and Mickey understand the profound promise of education to transform lives and work directly to strengthen our systems of support for educators, schools and students.”

Mickey and Jeanne continue to have an incredible impact on the lives of Longhorns through both their financial support and by sharing their time and talents.

“I think that the first part of my life was focused on making money,” Mickey said. “The second part has been devoted to giving money away intelligently. It's a greater thrill to give money — to see that we’ve improved the life of a person through education.”
