Backing the True Heroes

Alumna Gives Back to the School of Nursing Through Generous Estate Gift

Kim and Jeff Chapman

Alumna Kim Chapman and her husband, Jeff, made a gift in their estate plan to support the School of Nursing.

When Kim Chapman was a high schooler in Iowa, she attended diving camp at The University of Texas at Austin. She fell in love with “the whole UT vibe” — the campus, weather and top reputation. She soon enrolled in the School of Nursing, the place that changed her life. And she and her husband, Jeff, have made it their priority to support the school for life-changing generations to come.

“Texas Nursing gave me advantages,” said Kim. “At my first job, I realized that my education had better prepared me for real-life situations compared to some of my colleagues.”

Kim excelled as a surgical nurse and worked on the heart team for legendary surgeon Denton Cooley. She later became a nurse practitioner and joined a prominent cardiovascular practice. “I was afforded a lot of autonomy,” she said. “I loved treating and advocating for my patients.”

Jeff, a mergers and acquisitions lawyer, shared, “From the moment we met, it was apparent how proud she was of her career and her school. If something is important to my wife, it’s important to me.”

An Investment in Society

The Chapmans have given generously to the School of Nursing and created a gift through their estate to help ensure a strong future.

“It’s important to us to share a portion of our estate with organizations that have meant a lot to us and with people who are making a difference,” Jeff said. “Nurses are true heroes.”

“We believe our gifts to Texas Nursing are an investment in society,” Kim added. “Just look at the impact nursing has had during the pandemic. It’s a good feeling to know that we are supporting the School of Nursing during our lifetimes and forever afterwards.”
